For thoes who is working in or dealing with battery companies,they must be familiar with the lithium battery certificates, as it’s always required by transport companies or customers.IEC 62133 is one of these documents.
What is IEC62133 for lithium battery then?
It’s a worldwide safety requirements and tests for batteries. The first version is IEC62133-2012 version, it was released by the International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC) in 2012,They replaced the 2012 version with IEC62133 2:2017 verion in 2017.The official definition by IEC website is as below:
Secondary cells and batteries containing alkaline or other non-acid electrolytes – Safety requirements for portable sealed secondary lithium cells, and for batteries made from them, for use in portable applications – Part 2: Lithium systems
AbstractIEC 62133-2:2017 specifies requirements and tests for the safe operation of portable sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries containing non-acid electrolyte, under intended use and reasonably foreseeable misuse.
This first edition cancels and replaces the second edition of IEC 62133 published in 2012. It constitutes a technical revision.
This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to IEC 62133:2012:
– separation of nickel systems into a separate Part 1;
– inclusion of coin cell requirements;
– update of assembly of cells into batteries (5.6);
– mechanical tests [vibration, shock] (220.127.116.11, 18.104.22.168);
– insertion of IEC TR 62914 within the Bibliography.
